Nexus 4 and Rhythmbox

| Comments

Just a quick post on the syncing the Google Nexus 4 with Rhythmbox on Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal.

I just got a new Google Nexus 4 but when I plugged it in to sync with Rhythmbox it was not recognized. A little research showed that it was libmtp that was out of date on Quantal (1.1.4 vs 1.1.5). Here is a quick-n-dirty how to on getting the updated library into /usr/local:

$ sudo apt-get install libusb-dev
$ git clone git://git.code.sf.net/p/libmtp/code libmtp-code
$ cd libmtp-code
$ ./autogen.sh
$ ./configure
$ make
$ sudo make install
$ cd
$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH ; rhythmbox

Voila! Rhythmbox should now sync with your new Nexus 4!

If you need to connect to your Nexus 4 using anything other than rhythmbox just set LD_LIBRARY_PATH first and it should work as well.
